Also, NASCAR driver Tony Stewart plays bass. My friend has pics of him onstage jamming with the country band Diamond Rio. I'll see if she will forward one or two to me and I'll post. Seems that Tony was playing a Fender P-bass if I remember correctly.
I see this thread has been revived. And here is the pic of Tony Stewart.

The Page 'the temporary Bassist' story and Live Yardbirds

The first Yes album ("Yes") was released in 1969. "The Yes Album" (their 3rd release) was released in 1971.

About time somebody mentioned that.

But the reason is because he was dared to do it for a couple hundred dollars. I can't find out who dared him, though.

It was indeed Herbie Flowers, who incidently trained as a bassist with the R.A.F in the UK and played with the likes of David Bowie and T-Rex (in the mid 70s). He went on to co-found the neo-classical band "Sky" in 1979. Plays a '59 Fender Jazz he purchased from Manny's in NY in 59.

A few more facts for fun:

Lemmy played guitar in bands in the 60s including "the Rocking Vickers"

Lemmy was also a roadie, for the band "Nice" which featured Carl Emerson and it was Lemmy who gave Emmerson his trademark knives he used to use to lock down the keys on his hammond with (Hitlerjugend knives to be exact).

Lemmy is a corruption of a nickname he had as a kid "lend me" usually followed by an amount of money.

Lemmy's had around 3,000 women ...

In the film Popeye starring Robin Williams, the part of "Von Schnitzel" the music conductor is played by Klaus Voorman (who also played on the soundtrack).
