Good choice. Yes. The Meters lay down the funk and George Porter’s bass parts are not too hard to pickup.
Also listen to The JB’s – James Brown’s backup band in the early 70’s. Fred Thomas created a great funk feel on his Fender and his lines were not that terribly hard to learn.
