My brother just sent me this link. I have never heard this one before. I did a quick search but didn't find any link so here it is.

Sorry if it's a repost.

I just missed out on getting that Betty Davis CD a few months ago when a local sold out of it. I really want one because that is from the period when Larry Graham really began to put together slapping as we now know it.

Betty Davis is a wild woman for sure. In Miles Davis's bio, he says that when he was married to her, she cut out on him and gave it up to Jimi Hendrix. Miles was still cool with Hendrix though.

The old singer in my band wanted to cover this song for the longest time. Unfortunately, I was the only one in the band who learned it.

Do we still really need proof that Larry Graham is the baddest around?

I have a couple of Betty Davis' discs - great stuff! Neal Schon plays quitar, the Pointer Sisters sing back up vocals, and the rhythm sections are from Sly and the Family Stone as well as Grand Central Railroad, with some Tower of Power horn players on that album. She was married to Miles Davis too.
Damn funky!

Larry Graham has been one of my favorite bass players for years. I have turned more than a few of my friends on to GCS! As far as the Hendrix/Miles thing Doc noted, that was pretty disrespectful of Hendrix

Betty just dripped, dint she.....? So dont blame Jimi; he was under a spell man.

BTW, the tune sounds VERY much like B Davis; many of the songs had a riff hook to them like this one.

Larry invented all slap techniques. Anything you think was an aftermarket invention is just someone not knowing Larry did it and kinda getting their own thing together.

"Greasin' " is / has been an "in thing" for techniques now and some kids keep asking what new thing it is and it goes back to Larry.

Not dawging anyone mind you, just giving proper props.

thank you for the link.... Betty's stuff IS just.......

just...

just....

DAMN!!
