So, suppose I decide to add a Victor Baily solo disk to my "next purchase" list. Since I'm gonna have to kind of scrounge around to find one anyway, might as well get a good one.
What's everybody's fav Victor Bailey solo disk?

He asked me who my favorite bassist was. i told him either wooten, oteil, or bill "the buddah" dickens. he laughed. He told me the correct answer was anthony jackson. He said "he could rip everyone of those guys a new *******!" i was wondering where i could get some recordings proving this statement

Try to track down a copy of Steve Khan's Eyewitness, or failing that (it's been out of print for ten years now), look for the MP3s. (No comments from the peanut gallery.) "Where's Mumphrey?" is still kicking my ass.
You know, if I'm not mistaken, even Geddy Lee seems to have some AJ influence. It's hard to explain the fills in "Leave That Thing Alone" or "Limbo" otherwise.

He lately did some stuff with Bireli Lagrene and has his own project now called Frontpage AFAIK.
Kai Eckhardt did one track on that JMT album too, he also always had mean thumb even when he was still in Germany.

In general I find fusion bass players' tone to be generally very trebly, and not really what I like. This works fine for some players, like Stanely Clarke, but others are less effective.
Of my very limited experience with fusion I would say that the best tone I can remember hearing, the one bass tone that really reached out and grabbed me as a GREAT TONE is Steve Swallow's bass tone on John Scofield's live "Shinola" release.
And I really like Flim Johnson's bass tones on the great Flim & The BBs discs. |

Check him out at www.adamnitti.com. Here are some samples: Puddin' Evidence Truth

He and Dennis Chambers are scary on Scofield's Pick Hits Live.
