Is the mute the only "signature" part about the bass? If so, foam rubber costs about $1500 less.

Its a P bass, what more do you want? If youre looking for a Fodera or Ken Smith, take a guess.. look else where.

That video is wayyy cool. I would love a Bass Mute for my P bass, but foam works.

He does get a portion of the sales I believe so if I find myself in the market for a new p-bass I'd buy it.

i wasnt expecting much, but to go gear crazy for them putting a mod in and someones sig on it is a bit much. its like buying a honda for half the price of a lambo only because they glued a lambo decal on it.

call me crazy but if im gonna get hyped over a "new" model i want something to be a bit more impressive then a mute.

now the video itself is pretty sweet amazing player i will say

fwiw stuff like this sells. look at the GHS flea strings...to my knowledge they are identical to their 45's. they can sell a name. not for me, but apparently for many . . .

Don't buy the bass! Listen to Bob, RELAX and groove. Your bass probably works. If you play like Bob they'd take your bass and put your sig on it.

Does anyone know anything about the bass in question or are these comments based on the one clip?

I know he has endorsed the Bass Mute before, I'm curious if this is the same, though he says it's a custom one.

I'm also curious what the specs would be to differentiate it from the current Fender P offerings, as he usually plays stock passive Ps.

I'd be much more interested in the flash looking bass he's playing in the intro.

Apparently according to a recent interview with BB that bass was built by Ed Getz. Word on the UK bass forum is that the Fender BB sig has been shelved, don't know how true this is.

A Google search didn't bring anything up on the name Ed Getz, sadly.

I had hear the same rumour, now that you mention it, about two months ago, here.

I just got an e-mail from Bob and he said Fender is considering putting the Babbitt Bass out next year. Fender has been holding off due to the economy. It will be a '62 P-Bass made in Mexico I believe, with the string mutes. Ed put together a Warmoth Bass for Bob a few years ago and that is the Bass Bob has been using with The Funk Brothers. I asked Bob what strings he's using on the Fender prototype and he said La Bella Slappers.Hopefully Fender will issue The Babbitt Bass !
