Gail Ann "Lovely" Dorsey...

I recently bought David's A Reality Tour CD release just for this rendition of "Under Pressure." It might be blasphemy to some, but I like this version much better than the one with Freddie Mercury. I understand the lyrics better and some of the emotion of the song is better delivered.

Gail Ann totally floors me! She's practically my new bass (and all around-musical) hero. She always sounds great when she's playing, and she has a great voice.

I bought the rest of the CD because I kenw she was on it. I might not like all the songs, but I figured it would be a great way for me to hear her awesome chops.

So come on, people. Let's give Gail Ann some love!

I'd love to give Gail some love.....

Seriously though, her work is fantastic, especially with Bowie! Her playing is solid and gives Bowie's music an extra shot, you know? And did I mention she's hot?

And much like a few other female bassists, I was drawn to hearing her work and wanting to know who was on bass...the rest is like frosting on a cake!

Oh, yes, she does! Such a great part, and she owns it!

Makes me want to learn how to play it, actually.

I just found this video. I really love this song and the bassline whether it is the Bobby Womack original or Gail Ann Dorsey.

This, so much this!

As a singer/bassist, this is exactly what I want to do. One of my problems as a relatively new bassist, is that I want to play too much. (Common with young musicians, though I'm not in my teens or twenties.) I love her minimalism and yet it's a full and quite funky song. Such a beautiful use of fingerstyle, too.

Thanks also for the other videos, Dr. Cheese.

I first heard her with Tears For Fears and was thrilled when she joined Bowie's band. I was fortunate enough to see the Reality tour so I finally got to hear her live. She has such a great voice and I also prefer her on Under Pressure. Like, tears come to my eyes every time.

I picked up her most recent solo disc at the show as well, "I Used To Be..." and I think it's excellent.

I've had the Reality Tour DVD for several years, always used to watch it with my dad. I was so excited when the CD came out last year! She really stands out on that DVD.
