I'm a great fan of his playing. I think he does a good job adding some melodicism to Springsteen's often simple chord progressions.

Check out the Springsteen live CDs/DVDs, either the 2001 "Live in New York City" or the 1975 "Hammersmith Odeon" show. Both feature some terrific playing, and the bass is well-represented in the mix.

I'm an admitted jazz geek but I absolutely love his playing. He's the right age to have been influenced by Motown, Stax and the Beatles and it shows. His lines are supportive but groovey and sometimes even melodic. "Born to Run" is actually a good bass performance.

Longtime fan! That '75 show just plain smokes, 'Kittys Back' still blows my mind. Even without Bruce, the E Street band is one of the best and tightest rock bands ever......IMHO of course.

I think those first 4 albums are some of the greatest contributions to rock and roll...everything after that...

However Tallent epitomizes the roll of the rock bassist. Quiet, nuanced, and he knew his role.

He was quasi-melodic on the records but his live performances shined much brighter.

+1...and 2008 marks the 30th ann. of Darkess On The Edge Of Town...they'll probably release another nice boxset with another smoking show.

As you can imagine if you check my signature, I'm a big fan of Garry

Hey Fran, I've visited your site before, I didn't realize you were a TB'er -- very cool site! Althought it looks like your site is down right now? (It works correctly if you add an "index2.htm" to the end of the URL).

I love Garry Talent. His playing is rock solid and supportive, but yet he plays tasty fills and some nice melodies which make the bass stand out in the songs.

Not to mention the killer tone he always has. I 'm a huge Springsteen's fan.

You should check out the Live in Barcelon DVD, it's really cool.

You guys should also check out his playing with many Nashville musicians like Steve Forbert, The Delevantes, Duane Jarvis, etc.

Cool! He's the type of guy I can imagine working equally well in every style, but maintaining some degree of individuality.
