Check out the Springsteen live CDs/DVDs, either the 2001 "Live in New York City" or the 1975 "Hammersmith Odeon" show. Both feature some terrific playing, and the bass is well-represented in the mix.

He's the right age to have been influenced by Motown, Stax and the Beatles and it shows. His lines are supportive but groovey and sometimes even melodic. "Born to Run" is actually a good bass performance.

Even without Bruce, the E Street band is one of the best and tightest rock bands ever......IMHO of course.

However Tallent epitomizes the roll of the rock bassist. Quiet, nuanced, and he knew his role.
He was quasi-melodic on the records but his live performances shined much brighter. |

| | | | I love Garry Talent. His playing is rock solid and supportive, but yet he plays tasty fills and some nice melodies which make the bass stand out in the songs.
Not to mention the killer tone he always has. I 'm a huge Springsteen's fan.
You should check out the Live in Barcelon DVD, it's really cool. |

He's the type of guy I can imagine working equally well in every style, but maintaining some degree of individuality. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
