It's a good video but in terms of live awesomeness, I'd say the "A Show Of Hands" dvd has the best stuff!

That's a cool performance. Amazing that it only takes 3 musicians to make such a great sound.

I always find it funny how he evolves through equipment, comming full circle back to Fender a while ago, yet his tone still is more of the Evolved Ric tone. Snappy and rich.

Geddy has been my idol since I first saw them in 74, great guy, great player, and an awsome third of the most important band in music to me.
RUSH RULES!

I really prefer his live versions of Driven and Show of hands from Different Stages...

Not like he was hacking away in that clip though...

I have to say, I've seen Geddy do better, but yes, that is one his finest performances.

The original clip sounds like it's clipping/distorting just a bit. Here's a shorter version of that clip during Geddy's solo - and yes, the tone is awesome.

+1. It is ok but no YYZ or La Villa Strangiato. YYZ is much harder to play IMO and much more complex.

Strangiato with an interesting introduction with the band.

+1! Also see Live at Leeds, the Ramones, The Jam... less is more!

Confession time - I asked a bass-playing friend 'who's this Geddy Lee?' today. Now I know. That sound has all the best aspects of plectrum and fingers, he must have callouses like rocks.

Which are his best recordings?

I have a love/hate relationship with that song/performance. The way he syncopates and uses pedal tones on his jam in the middle and toward the end of the song are amazing, and the melody the bass displays is pure genius, IMO. However, the solo at the end is where it loses me...I just don't appreciate the phrasing of his solo when he uses that same pedaling technique and just cranks out a series of 16th notes higher up on the neck. The solo doesn't support the melody of the song and lacks in the structure that makes the rest of the tune so great.

I'm a huge fan of Geddy, but when he starts to rip out a solo, I usually end up disappointed. OTOH his sense of rythm and melody throughout the "meat" of most of Rush's songs is as good as it gets.
