Geddy Lee's onstage appliances

I am not the huge rush fan that many of you are so this may be a dumb question, however I am going to ask it anyway.

Why does Geddy use appliances on stage? I have seen the Rio video where he uses the dryers.

Rush played her in ATL last night and he used big chicken rottiseries.

Is it just Geddy's sense of humor? or is he making a statement?

It's taking the piss out of players who have a wall of Marshall or Ampeg behind them. He used to use washing machines.

He uses the venue's amps (or whatever a venue's sound system is called) now. Just threw some stuff behind him to fill in the blank space. During concerts one of the stage guys in chef hat and apron comes out and bastes the chickens to keep the sound fresh. Rush's website has a schematic for his rotisserie aka "The Henhouse."

tonedeafmike is correct. The guys in Rush have always had a good sense of humor, so Geddy is pretty much making fun of himself for having had so many giant amp stacks behind him in previous tours. These days he goes straight from his pre-amp setup to the House PA, using in ear monitors to hear himself.

BTW, when they played San Antonio last year, the chef who came out to baste the chickens was a really nicely dressed woman.

Geddy Lee needs a freezer/oven drummer. -cough-

I think it's pretty good sense of humor on his behalf, honestly.

Geddy goes D.I now, so the Henhous are for show and his dry sense of humor.
