Geddy's best sound?

In the quest for the 'perfect' sound, I always end up with Dirk.
But depending on my mood, I think his best sounds are:
1. Cinderella Man-pure Rick glory
2. YYZ-not much more can be said
3. Marathon/Big Money-Wal!

Thoughts?

As much as I love YYZ (what's not to love?), I've got to vote Big Money. The overall sound of that album is not to my liking, but the bass sounds absolutely kill.

My all time favorite of his is the Wal, so that would be Big Money/Marathon, but I also love the old school Jazz and Ric tones too. Wal is #1 for me though.

To me his best sound is during the guitar solo near the end of The Camera Eye. Nice warm overdriven tone.

The studio version of "Limelight" has always been my fave Geddy tone, followed closely by everything on "Hemispheres".

Of the three mentioned definitely Cinderella Man. Overall (whether studio or live), I say the ESL version of Red Barchetta. And a quick props to his current tone, which, IMHO, is his best since the Counterparts days.

I went to Bass pro shop and to my surprise they didn't have a single bass guitar.

Cinderella Man.
I love the pure Ric tone of the entire "A Farewell To Kings" LP

Gotta go with Big Money/Marathon. That Wal funky midrange with the non-flamenco playing is Dy-no-mite

Just figured I'd beat the trolls to it. Considering my Avatar, and the fact I just bought tickets to the Clockwork Angels tour I certainly don't feel that way.

Of these choices, Cinderella Man is my favorite. To me, it keeps the tang of a simpler compressed sound plus that signature dirt in the sound. I do like the whinier sound of the Wal sometimes (and live better than the studio).

You are a lucky man! I have not missed a tour in years, but there is no Denver tour date thus far...

Difficult question.

He has a great tone on fly by night, bet nobody else mentions this. I assume it's the Ric, but it's not as bright or distorted as let's say hemispheres which is a great tone in its own right. The tone of fly by night is certainly deeper.

Everything on moving pictures sounds great, but I think the star of the show is the ampeg svt in this case.

Never liked his wal tone one bit, really nasel.

The tone on the 3 tracks I've heard so far from clockwork angels is also somewhat nasel to my ears. Kinda sick of the jazz bass geddy if your reading this ... :P

As for my all time favourite, it has to be the Ric days, but even on a Ric he sounded different on every song.

Of the ones to vote for, YYZ...

But my personal faves are anything on Moving Pictures, and DIGITAL MAN! The bass before it goes into the solo is awesome.

Digital Man is hard to beat. Great tone, great bassline.
