Kiss always plays live. What makes you think he's faking it?

LOL...well it does look like he is just pedalling along there instead of hitting that lick...but theres other spots where he seems to be on it...its probably just creative video editing actually...and in the end....does it really matter?

I don't like Gene Simmons that much personally(decent bassist, but the other parts eh not much), however he isn't faking it. If he was faking it, you would hear a cleaner studio recording while he fakes it, there's also some improvising that you wouldn't find on the studio recording.

First, his fretting hand barely moves the whole song, and second during that lick he moves his picking hand in a constant quarter note speed.

It actually seems to me that he just can't play that fast little lick good live, so maybe he is only faking it there?

I'm thinking he's improvising the riff.

I also heard a harmonic and slides I haven't heard in the studio version.

For the record, I'm really not that into Gene's playing. He does a great job with the self promotion, though. I wouldn't put it past him to fake it.

However, I think that it's bad editing. The bass tone is great, though (on my crummy computer speakers). I'll have to check out some of the other songs from this show.

I don't think he's faking it and would be more inclined to lean towards improving the line a bit.

One thing is certain though that is 2 minutes of my life I will never get back and one of the crappiest live sounding performances I have ever heard.

.......

It's called video editing!!!!!!Listen to the lick he throws in around the 3:00 mark, awesome!!!I consider myself to be a bassist who can improvise lines and hold his own, but,I would've never came up w/that line.

Guys,I've got a strong/sneaking suspicion that Mr.Simmons is a LOT better player than what you see & hear.I can tell from how fluidly he snakes his way in & out and around,on these tunes. But,oh well, believe what you want. But,IMHO,I think he plays EXACTLY WHAT THE SONG NEEDS.Nothing more, nothing less. And that my friends,is called,a "mature" bassist.

Seems legit to me...just bad editing. It doesn't look like it's synced up very well at some parts and other parts it's fine. Like the old overdubbed kung fu movies. It's a VERY easy bassline, especially for someone who's been playing it for over 30 years. Why ruin your reputation as a LIVE act with faking it?

often live recordings are pasted together from a bunch of different shows.....even zappa would paste together parts from different solos on his live albums........i don't care for simmons at all but i doubt that he's faking......... i think that the audio and video are from different shows

I can't imagine anyone judging whether someone is faking something from a youtube video from who knows what non-musician producer. I think you would have had to be there to really know for sure. They usually take the best shots of each person to fit and make the whole video look good, not to try and show musicianship, especially from kiss.
