Popular =/= good. Otherwise N'Sync is the height of musical prowess.

This thread is funny! Gene's been playing this song live for 35 years (I've actually seen him do it, believe it or not) and people are debating if he's playing to tracks on a freakin' Youtube video, which are notorious for bad synching? Good stuff, guys! What's even funnier is when you post your Youtube videos of YOU playing it. I'm sure you're all way better than Gene. And I'm sure Gene couldn't give a crap while looking at all those people who came to see him.

This. Gene seems like a douche to me, and I never buy the "look how many tickets/records X has sold, how dare you criticize X!" line. But it's just plain goofy to think you can tell he's faking from a Youtube video, and I've never seen a reason to suspect he has been.

Sorry, but I have a soft spot for Gene. KISS has been the most disrespected band of all time while there are bands out there with 1/4 the talent and 1/10 of the great songs and they're considered geniuses. Gene is a bit of a douche and overly likes himself in a lot of ways, but he's pretty modest about his playing, and really, he's not bad at all.

True. Youtube videos often have ridiculously bad synching.

I was pretty disappointed. I was hoping for some glaring detail that would be super obvious if he was faking. But no, complete let down.

Yup. And it's obvious with the drums and vocals too. It's off by about half a second in places-the audio is way behind the video. Gene is what he is. I like some of their stuff. But he always seems to have horrible tone, sorry Jimmy!

video sync is bad. gene's also playing the lick in different positions so he won't fall asleep. he should just spit blood constantly.

But, IF the Pope were a bassist, it seems like a Rick would be a good choice.

I love watching the Simmons Family Jewels show. I have more respect for him, now, than I ever had before. I don't think he's a bad guy, at all. I think the whole arrogant rock star thing is an act.

I don't think it's an act. Paul said he hated him when he first met him. But he's likable. A likable a-hole

First of all, thanks so much to the moderator for allowing me to post this reply. Just want to leave record of this (sort of) proof of the OP's mistake:

That's not fake. It's just a video editing problem. At some point, the drums are also out of sync since the audio and video tracks don't match. It's not the first time I notice something like that. Back in (I think) 1981, when I saw this video for the first time, I kept rewinding the Betamax tape trying to find out why at 0:45 Paul Stanley isn't even close to the microphone and ready to sing but his voice can be heard loud and clear.

Now, after watching the video above, watch this one, which is correctly edited - at 0:39 Paul Stanley starts singing in sync. Clearly noticeable although there's no close-up. So you can see what I'm talking about: Just bad video editing.
