Hell, most of us here are more talented then he is.

Whats wierd is that the more some people hate Gene, the more they love Kiss, my brother and most of my friends included. Some wierd negative corrolation goin on there.

Besides, the likes of Christian Olde Wolbers and DD Vernie had better picking skills......but yeah Gene has a slightly better haircut.

This might be off topic (and stupid) but I heard he lost his "natural" hair long ago and wears a wig...especially the very first video with the "solo" looks pretty odd to me.
BTW Paul Stanley looks kinda the same, sometimes...considering that hair.

It's so funny how you 'technical' guys get so riled by Gene

Is he a 'great' bassist? If by that you mean 'technically a virtuoso'....No...
Is he a good, solid, bassist who understands the use of melody, groove and writing 'for the song'? Yes...

Gene was brought up on the bass playing of Motown, Jamerson, McCartney, Entwistle, John Paul Jones etc.... good songs, melodic basslines and a 'connection' with the audience. These are all things he contributed to KISS and is one of the many reasons why they are so successful.

You guys who whack off in your rooms to bass soloists who haven't sold any records, made any money or any cultural impact really need to lighten up....

I wouldn't even go that far. His basslines are completely uninspired and barely go beyond simple root-notes.

That's why I dislike Gene Simmons more than anything else. He's a whore. Plain and simple.

I thought it was pretty good.

You really never listened to much early KISS, have you? Whatever he did later, a lot of pre-78 stuff has movement and melody. If you're pre-disposed to not like him because of his "whore-ish" personality (which he might not even dispute), then of course it all sucks and is awful.

Fieldy does suck.
And by the way, though that wasn't the greatest solo, Gene is a fairly good bassist IMO. I hear so much about "serving the song" over chops, so why is it that people seem to feel differently about KISS?
.... I like them.

I'll venture as far as to say he's listened to NO early Kiss.

There are pretty much 2 Gene Simmons'. The modern Gene, who is a root note whore, and the EARLY Gene, who wrote some KILLER counter melody walking basslines that were awesome. Technically amazing? Nope. PERFECT lines for the songs? No doubt. I think most would agree his playing was an integral part into catapulting Kiss into the Megaband they became.

Ya know I don't get this whole forum really.Every one knows Gene is no virtuso. He is a great buisnessman. And he constantly cries all the way to the bank, and loses no sleep with anyone who hates him.Personally I like him,he is a smart man.And I would take him any day over an #hole like Jeff Berlin who thinks he is Jesus Christ himself.
