I don't know how I missed this guy all these years, but I just heard Delbert McClinton's "Live" (released in 2003) and was completely floored. George Hawkins Jr. is SICK and i am in love with his tone. Anyone know what kind of bass & rig he uses (or was using)?

just met him tonight in a hotel bar outside of philly,pa. He was telling me he has an 80s era pedulla and a 4 string music man. didn't ask about the amp situation. very cool, very nice guy.

George spent some time playing with John Fogerty: he can be heard (and seen) on the 'long road home' cd & dvd. At that time he played Fender Jazz and Stingray basses. Not sure about his rig...

Is this the same George Hawkins that played in Kenny Loggins' '80s band(s)?
Keep The Fire is a nice album from that period.

If so...yes, he is happening.
When asked "Who are the great bassists that also sing"...
He is a guy I always cite as being able to play funky/syncopated figures while singing great harmony vocals.

Yes. Same guy from Loggins' band. He met Kenny Loggins while working in Ojai, CA and went on to become in itegral part of his band. George has also played with Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks.

He played a Yamaha Broad Bass 2000 on Loggins' tours. Last time I saw him with McClinton, he was playing a MM Stingray bass into a GK 800RB head/Hartke 4x10 cab combo. Great player.
