Well there hasn't been a thread on George in a while here... or maybe ever! I haven't heard his name pop up much since James Hart's awesome interview, so I figured I'd make a thread with for some funkmaster appreciation.

In my opinion, this man is one of the definitions of solid groove. He just oozes with funk and soul and his playing is so tasteful. Definitely a huge influence on my playing style over the years!

Oh... and completely unrelated... Last night:

I saw George play with Steve Kimock in Teaneck, NJ in a small club. The man is a genius, as is Steve. If you haven't heard of him, you should check him out. I'm a huge Kimock fan (20yr guitar player, recently picked up bass), and wound up watching George most of the night! If you look around archive.org you can find lots of shows they did together. He has also done some stuff with Warren Haynes of Gov't Mule that's awesome. George shows that's he's not only a funk legend, but can improv/jam with the best.

Haha Steve was there when I met George, didn't get a picture however. I love Steve's playing!

I was pretty dam close. I was right in front of Melvin Seals' B3....another genius. Easily one of the most incredible displays of musicianship I ever saw- 5.17.08 @ Mexicali Blues.

George Porter is in my top 5 favorite bassists. I've seen him many times.

Hats off to Kimock and Seals too. I used to see Kimock play with Zero and Seals with Jerry. Great memories.

This is almost creepy...

Last night I gathered up music for a week long camping trip with close friends and family. Top of the stack: Meters and Steve Kimock Band.

ps - hey j@zz b@ss, what name is the Porter/Kimock stuff under on the archive? I stream Kimock stuff a lot but I've never seen anything they did together.

In the George Martin book "Making Music"; Paul McCartney is quoted as saying that George Porter Jr. Is his all-time favorite bass player...
That looks pretty darn good on the ol' resume!

i was at that concert, thursday, awesome show. Anyway you would have the setlists? That 2nd jam was insane when he and the guitarist were harmonizing.
