Totally smokin'! Gerald Veasley is a brilliant player whose approach gets overlooked. That clip also makes me miss Joe Zawinul too! The man was a wonderful bandleader and musician.

I typically cringe at the 'bass guitar as classical guitar' thing played way up high (never quite got the point of that). However, man he really is killing on that clip, and even if it is kind of 'playing guitar on bass', it is VERY good, and of course he digs into the groove with the best of them.

Amazing player who you don't hear about that much at this point.

I went to Geralds Bass Boot Camp back in '06. It was a really good experience to meet bassists from arounf the country. the Instructors were great (Gerald being one of them). He has skills and knowledge for days! I have not made it back yet but I hope to do so soon.

I first got hip to Veasley through the Rochester/Veasley band, because Cornell Rochester was in Jamaaladeen Tacuma's band, funny how that spiders out.

Gerald did a very long stint with Grover Washington, Jr. also. Actually I think it was until Grover passed.
