Anyone out there inspired by Leon Wilkeson? Growing up in the 70's and just starting out on the bass,he was always an inspiration to me.Some eye popping runs on songs like Trust,Free Bird, etc. His name never seems to come up alot, but I still am awed by his work.

Leon did some great work in LS.

For sure one of my early influences.I remember looking at pics of him with a cream colored Jazz bass, thinking "One day,one day....."

Cream colored jazz, tele bass,TBird, and a Fenderbird on The Old Grey Whistle Test show.Just a smooth player who IMO doesn't get his due.Glad someone else remembers just as fondly.

Really,I think it was this picture that made me realize that music and playing in front of people was my true ambition.

Wasn't this picture from the show in England where they opened for the Stones along with 10CC? This show and the one from Oakland, I believe called A Day On The Green, did it for me as well.I guess it's just the two of us in the Thumper Appreciation Society huh?

I stand corrected,he is revered by many as he should be.He is the reason I bought a crappy off white Cortez jazz bass in the late 70's.Thought if I looked the part,I could play like him.Not so much.
