A lot of bassists seem to be into funk, but no one ever mentions go-go. Well, I know some of you out there must be fans of some of the funkiest music ever made, so let's hear from you. Do you play in a go-go band, have any favourite go-go bassists or groups? And no, I'm not talking about 60s go-go, with the girls in white boots, etc. - strictly D.C.

I've only recently got into Go-Go and would you believe it was from watching HBO's "The Wire"! After the series finished (what a show!) I was reading about one of the actors - Anwan Glover - who is/was also the lead singer of a Go-Go band in Washington, DC. So I checked out some of it, I liked it a lot

I dig the older stuff Chuck Brown, older Backyard and so on. The newer stuff, "Bounce Beat" is absolute trash my brother loves it and I think It's an insult to music itself. They don't play instrument the beat on them and make sounds come out.

/rant off

I will say that one band, Mambo Sauce, makes some seriously nice stuff. Funky, melodic and the singers actually sing. It's not overladen with crappy effects either, just good music.
