Well, I'm actuallygoing to see Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, but I figured I had better not pass up the opportunity to see Victor Wooten when he is only a 30 min drive from my house!

This is the Bela Fleck Christmas tour. I was just wondering if anyone had been to it before. Is it bass-tastic? -can't believe I just typed bass-tastic

I've seen the Flecktones a few times (never a 'Christmas' tour though), its always jaw-droppingly amazing. All them guys are insanely good.

+100. You are about to witness the greatness of Future Man. You won't believe it. Just awesome.

Once, when Wakarusa was still in KS, I had the privilege of seeing Bela do a solo hour set in a tent right across from our camp site in* the afternoon. Then, later that night he and the Flecktones closed the fest. It took about three weeks for me to collect all of the small pieces of my melted face...

I saw their Christmas show last year in NYC at the Blue Note. AMAZING!! I've seen them a few times over the years, and missed several more of their shows. Recently I vowed that I would do whatever I can to see them every time I can.

Awesome! I've only seen/heard them on television or on CD. We don't get a lot of good shows in my (red)neck of the woods!

I'm really stoked

Great opportunity for you, then. They absolutely kill.

+100 Yup, seeing them live does seem to have that effect on one, especially this one. Such wonderful music and musicianship!! I've also had the opportunity to see Bela and Edgar Meyer live once. And their Christmas show at the University of Buffalo Center for the Arts last year was just great. (A pic of that performance is attached.) Their performances are always top shelf.

'scuse me while I quote myself.

I guess I'm being a little hard on the entertainment scene in my area. We have had an increase in performances in the past couple of years.

I did see Wilco and Autumn Defense in the same town I'm going to see Bela tonight, so things are on the up and up.

I love seeing the Flecktones... they are what got me started playing bass. Last month they were touring with Howard Levy but work kept me from the show...

First, in case you all don't know about it, the Internet Archive has a live music archive with several hundred Flecktones shows going back to the early 90s. Some of low quality of course, some close to soundboard. archive.org.

Second, something I've noticed is that there are two kinds of 'tones shows: ones at fancy music halls where people listen and enjoy, and places at clubs with a Bluegrass bent (eg the Birchmere) where folks will actually yell and cheer and generally have an interactive experience with the band. For example, back in the 90s I saw them touring with Sam Bush, and they were rolling out some old Newgrass tunes, and Bela introduced it by saying, "You might have heard about a band called New Grass Revival, they used to play around here a lot." and someone from the crowd yelled "We miss it!" and Bela's reaction was "Yeah, I think we all do!"

Sorry for the non-bass material. Being in Decatur I hope you'll get the second kind of venue, it's more fun ;-)

Well this is actually in Meridian (our version of a big city!) and it being held at a remodeled opera house (http://www.msurileycenter.com/ ). So I'm guessing we will get "fancy music hall". Either one is fine with me!

I saw this (Christmas) tour last year. They played extremely well but, I didn't really want to hear Christmas tunes all night. It wasn't billed as a "Christmas" show so I wasn't really expecting that.

I've seen the Flecktones almost 20 times now and I have to say the Christmas show, which I saw at the Blue Note in NYC was definitely the worst one I've seen....I mean, it was still an amazing show, just the worst one I've seen by them....

I saw the Flecktones just once, not a Christmas show. One of my favorite concerts and definitely the most musically unique. They're all jaw-dropping musicians. I took my son who is a professional (for a living) drummer/percussionist. He was blown away by Future Man.

I saw Vic and the guys (for the first time) play a few weeks ago at the Strathmore in Maryland. It was a total of 7 hours worth of driving but worth every second. I was completely blown away by all the talent on that stage. Enjoy the show tonight!

Cool!!!!!! I have yet to see Victor or the Flecktones, but I did see Bela Fleck, Jean-Luc Ponty and a pretty decent bassist named Stanley Clarke together in concert as a trio.

Well, I'm back...

Wow! Just wow! Fantastic show!

They played for three hours with a 15 minute intermission. They played Christmas songs and non-Christmas songs. I'm not the world's most educated Bela Fleck fan, but I did recognize "Big Country".

They had the Alash Ensemble with them and a fiddle player (didn't catch his name). It was an amazing show and Victor Wooten didn't let me down.

I don't know if this something they do at every Christmas show, but the played 12 Days of Christmas and every 'day' was in a different key and different time signature. I think that broke my brain!

Oh yeah, one more thing. My brother was supposed to go with me but had a conflict at the last minute and my MOTHER took his ticket. She talked about Vic all the way home. I think I might have the grooviest mother in the world!
