Well, I'm actuallygoing to see Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, but I figured I had better not pass up the opportunity to see Victor Wooten when he is only a 30 min drive from my house!
This is the Bela Fleck Christmas tour. I was just wondering if anyone had been to it before. Is it bass-tastic? -can't believe I just typed bass-tastic

Then, later that night he and the Flecktones closed the fest. It took about three weeks for me to collect all of the small pieces of my melted face...

I've seen them a few times over the years, and missed several more of their shows. Recently I vowed that I would do whatever I can to see them every time I can. |

I'm really stoked

Such wonderful music and musicianship!! I've also had the opportunity to see Bela and Edgar Meyer live once. And their Christmas show at the University of Buffalo Center for the Arts last year was just great. (A pic of that performance is attached.) Their performances are always top shelf.

I guess I'm being a little hard on the entertainment scene in my area. We have had an increase in performances in the past couple of years.
I did see Wilco and Autumn Defense in the same town I'm going to see Bela tonight, so things are on the up and up. Quote:

First, in case you all don't know about it, the Internet Archive has a live music archive with several hundred Flecktones shows going back to the early 90s. Some of low quality of course, some close to soundboard. archive.org.
Second, something I've noticed is that there are two kinds of 'tones shows: ones at fancy music halls where people listen and enjoy, and places at clubs with a Bluegrass bent (eg the Birchmere) where folks will actually yell and cheer and generally have an interactive experience with the band. For example, back in the 90s I saw them touring with Sam Bush, and they were rolling out some old Newgrass tunes, and Bela introduced it by saying, "You might have heard about a band called New Grass Revival, they used to play around here a lot." and someone from the crowd yelled "We miss it!" and Bela's reaction was "Yeah, I think we all do!"
Sorry for the non-bass material. Being in Decatur I hope you'll get the second kind of venue, it's more fun ;-)

Well this is actually in Meridian (our version of a big city!) and it being held at a remodeled opera house ( http://www.msurileycenter.com/ ). So I'm guessing we will get "fancy music hall". Either one is fine with me!

It was a total of 7 hours worth of driving but worth every second. I was completely blown away by all the talent on that stage. Enjoy the show tonight! |

Wow! Just wow! Fantastic show!
They played for three hours with a 15 minute intermission. They played Christmas songs and non-Christmas songs. I'm not the world's most educated Bela Fleck fan, but I did recognize "Big Country".
They had the Alash Ensemble with them and a fiddle player (didn't catch his name). It was an amazing show and Victor Wooten didn't let me down.
I don't know if this something they do at every Christmas show, but the played 12 Days of Christmas and every 'day' was in a different key and different time signature. I think that broke my brain!
Oh yeah, one more thing. My brother was supposed to go with me but had a conflict at the last minute and my MOTHER took his ticket. She talked about Vic all the way home. I think I might have the grooviest mother in the world!
