I would not search out bass players directly but rather see the worship leader and get the fake book and talk to people that go to other local churches to see what is being played. If Detroit has a local gospel music radio station listen to that. And from that list of artist/songs learn the songs which might be played and further study will, take you to the bassist on the recordings.
