I would not search out bass players directly but rather see the worship leader and get the fake book and talk to people that go to other local churches to see what is being played. If Detroit has a local gospel music radio station listen to that. And from that list of artist/songs learn the songs which might be played and further study will, take you to the bassist on the recordings.

Morgan Turner - Isaiah Thomas & Elements of Praise
Ace Livingston - Youthful Praise
Darrell Freeman - Donnie McClurkin, William Murphy
Sharray Reed - Maurette Brown Clark
Maurice Fitzgerald - Fred Hammond (really any of Fred's Bass Players)

Just to add to the list

Even though it’s rather old, the following thread lists some still quite relevant and great gospel bass players:
Good Gospel Bass

Hope that helps…

Oh, and while we’re on the subject, I’ve been listening to The Anointed Sisters of late. Darrell Freeman did a great job on the following song, ‘High Praise’: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fY94ri2WOE
