Great Christian bassists?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am curious to find out if you guys know of any bassists for Christian bands that are worth hearing. I can only think of the bass lines from old school DC Talk. They were killer on some songs, but I'm wondering about recent bands, say the last 10 years or so.

Or bassists with mustaches! How about vegetarian bassists? Bassists who practice polygamy! Bassists who can wiggle their ears! Bassists with no tattoos!

And especially, who are the great red-haired left-handed Jewish bald bachelor cat-owning auto mechanic bassists?

Well somegood bands with good basslines are decyfer down, brian "head" welch, disciple, for today, and pillar. Now most of those just sound like average players in the album. But live they are very talented musicians.

Norm Stockton (Lincoln Brewster, solo, etc.) is ridiculously good, as is Andrew Gouche, Brandon Aaronson (Jesus Culture), Cassie Campbell (Misty Edwards band), and several others. Most Christian bands have really good musicians not just bassists. The ones that aren't really showy are still serious groove players.

Take it easy. He's just asking about bassists within a specific genre. That happens all the time around here. Not interested? Move on. Interested in vegetarian bassists? Start your own thread.

I always liked All Together Separate. Charles Rumahlewang, the bass player, was solid.

Big Abe has got to be my favorite.

Justin Froning from the band Deas Vail is a great bassist. Also Roy from MuteMath. Both great bands, but they're also not the worship-style Christian band...
And of course, Ryan Owens from Robbie Seay Band- crazy good bassist.

I always liked a lot of the Hillsong and Hillsong United bass lines. Check out the solo on Salvation is Here (I think it's got Matthew Tennikoff on bass).

Man, Thaddeus Tribbett, Sharay Reed, And a thousand other gospel players are AWESOME! Among the greatest in the world! On another note, Samba Mapangala is Muslim I believe. His bass players are BAAAAADDDDDAAAASSSSSSSS! African bass is so amazing many times! Check out Virunga! Damn!

I'm partial to punk, so I think in the Christian music areana, the dude in MXPX is pretty good. I like some of Audio Adrenaline stuff until I heard the bass player start a song off "note for note" Jane's Addition's "Mountain Song"... Trying to pull a fast one on those Christian kids that don't listen to secular music. For shame!!!!

Well, I wouldn't say "religion" is a musical "genre", but if the certain style of music has a specific theme or philosophy, or is considered a form of worship. I guess you could call it a religious style or "genre".
