I'm sorry but I never heard of Rutger Gunnarsson. Fortunatly you also told me that he is the genius behind ABBAs bottem.... and you're totally right. He is a genius.
To cnltb:
Those bass players you mentioned rule. (I'm sorry, another power word). I like the way carles benavent plays. Spanish Flamengo on bass!!! |

Warning, huge pic... http://www.ringside-event.se/press/b...Gunnarsson.jpg

Hovensjo should be considered one of the greats, a titan from the 70's.
There are many great acoustic players, such as J.F. Jenny-Clark.
Right now, Italy seems to be swarming with fabulous acoustic players. And Italy has always had great bassists.
Overall, what a wealth of talent, both electric and acoustic. So sad that so many great international bassists have been so under-recognized and under-appreciated in the US for so long. It's very hard to get the US music media to pay proper attention to them.
There should be a hall of fame just for singing UK bassists. Lake, Bruce, Wetton, etc. And one of my personal treasure favorites, Richard Sinclair. And another one, the incomparable Colin Hodgkinson. There you go. |

He doesn't show off chops or anything like that whatsoever. His discipline for the music he plays is incredible, and his lines do exactly what they are intended to do. He's patient and diligent, and carries the band wonderfully. |

The US media doesn't pay much attention to the US based ones either. |

| | | Thank you for your postings. Nice to know there are so many great bassplayers in Europe (British and non-British European). Most off them I knew allready, but some off them were totally new for me. Thanks for the new inspiration!!!
What do you think of Stefan Redtenbacher. Austrian-born bass player Stefan Redtenbacher has, over the last 10 years, established himself as the UK’s 'groove’ bass player of choice for Steve Winwood, Sam Brown, Danny Gotlieb and Eliott Randall (Steely Dan).
For those who don't know him, check the movie on this site: http://www.zesnullen.nl/stefan_redtenbacher.html |
