Don't like the band anymore. He's not bad, though.

Another bassist... But he contributed a lot for Green Day's success... So congrats to him and Green Day...

No matter how "mainstream" they are... American idiot is their best album.. To me that is... Although i dont listen to them much anymore...

Dirnt is a great bass player IMO. He admited to "Choking Back" His bass lines for American Idiot to let the songs drive themselves. Before, he played melodic runs anywhere he could. That, to me, is a sign of a Great Bass Player. Knowing when to lay back and let the music flow.

Yes Dirnt is a very good bassist.

Pop-punk sellouts or not, I still think Green Day is a good band.

i think that as far as punk-rock goes, dirnt is one of the better bass players (in that genre). I am not a big fan of the band, but he does lay down solid lines, and you have to give him points for longview
a lot of TB'ers may not like it that much because it's not exactly a difficult bass part, but i bet you a lot of kids picked up the bass because of it

Mike Dirnt is a great player. Their style of music demands aggressive, melodic bass playing, and he still delivers.

The tone he got for "When I come Around" is great and the bass line in that song is really jumpy. I like their older stuff more. I think he's a good player.

He's the only one in that band who knows his chops and theory. I think most of Green Day's current fame can be put on his shoulders. I am a fan of the original Greenday (Dookie, Kerplunk era). Dirnt's playing reminds me a little bit of Mike Watt's. he stays in the pocket, but also brings bass out of the background at the same time.

so many people dont like thsi type of music because its not million notes per second (sheehan) or insanely difficult harmonic grooves (wooten) wake up fullas green day are popular because there music is enjoyed by many. theres a reason why these bass gods arent in the top 40

It's cool that all of you that are calling them "sellouts" still enjoy life even after you turned down the million dollar deal that was offered to you.

I dont understand why they are sellouts.. You become a sellout when people start liking your music? by this logic everybody should make real bad music, then they will be cool...

they aren't sellouts, they are musicians who took advantage of their big break, just like most of us would. And yes, Dirnt is an excellent bassist, probably the best in his genre

He does something unique that most punk rockers don't do, that is, he actually plays outside the root of the chord. Plus, his tone is pretty good and fits the music well.

I also think he's one of the players with the most chops in his genre, his playing on their recent album is basic because he decided to play as little as possible, his lines on their earlier albums are nothing like that.

Pretty awesome elevator music. He's good for a pop/punk bassist, not much beyond that though.
