A Groove Master at work....

Sign in to disble this ad
Dont get me wrong my favorite bass player is Meshell ndegeocello, and others who are groove masters, but i have a dark side and his name is Wojtek Pilichowski....This guy is truly awsome,, im a fan of Dale Black, and all the gospel cats, and Victor, and the shredders...

But this guy is just amazing..it may be just my taste but his solo at 2.30 is just amazing and flows so well into the bridge..

Any views?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haMvqvixazA

Ok maybe Dale Black. my favorite gospel player..Incredible playing this...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ThwuJVcyoA

Nicely played, super clean, impressively technique.
However I find that both feels very dated, reminiscent of Patitucci's work in the 80s.
Now the kind of playing I prefer but I applaud them anyway.

anyway.
Am I understanding you correctly when you say the "feel" is dated?? If so, can you explain? How can someone's feel be dated? (sincerely)

He's got great technique, but come on, he's hardly pushing back he barriers of music. If I put the video out of sight and just listen to the music, I could swear it is Mark King and Level 42. Mark was doing this sort of stuff nearly 30 years ago.

Just looked at the video again, he's even got a bit of tape around his thumb like Mark King.

And the other guy does a pretty horrible job of describing what hes doing.

Gotcha. I finally looked at the vids too. They are quite dated themselves LOLOL. I will admit that I put this vid over all the rest of his more current ones with the lightning slap and harmonic endings. This one is miles more musical and grooving than the others.

As far as Dale, yeah, hes not necessarily Todd Johnson, but there are plenty of great players that couldnt sit down and explain what they do clearly. Its more just a this is what I do, "pick it up if you can".

Looked at a few other clips. Seems to be a disciple of Mark King.
Killer chops, some good stuff, but I'd rather hear Marcus Miller. Marcus just 'feels' so good.

And theres a no problem with that, but then he shouldn't be making videos trying to explain it, he should just play it. I mean he mentions a 2-5-1 but doesn't say anything about it and that is a problem. I feel that a part of be able to do something, is knowing it well enough to be able to teach it. But maybe thats just because I am a perfectionist,

Well once again it was just a 'chops' video, not necessarily a theory or beginners bass instructional. Im sure if he had the time, he could have went into the whole concept of 2-5-1's as they relate to theory (because he has an strong jazz background), but it was just a short vid showing some of his techniques. If you look at the other gospel chops videos, they do pretty much the same thing.

There maybe quite a few artists that fall short of your expectations LOLOL.

I dug it - thanks for sharing. Nice tone, great playing, and I really enjoyed the drummer.

The 'thing' on his thumb. Looks very much like what my friend & mentor used to market back in the late 80's/early 90's - basically a thumb pick (with the pick actually bent back) wrapped in electrical tape. Kinda' cool, and it did work, lending a bit of thickness to the thumb tone.

I have no doubt that both of these players have mastery over many genres and styles of music.

You dont navigate the instrument like that without putting in alot of time on alot of different music.
