Sign in to disble this ad
anyone know what kinda gear the bassist they had used.....i know there was more then one bassist for them over the years, but they sounded pretty similar.

Just curious if anyone knew much about em, i really dig there tone, and i dialed in pretty close to it, with a lil more of my flavor added : )

The Bassist was Duff McKagan. He played Fender Jazz Bass
Specials, GK Amps and Rotosound "spacer" strings. I think
he had a signature set of these Rotosounds, which are now
discontinued, with his mug on the front of the package.
He plays with Velvet Revolver now. www.velvetrolver.com

Cheers,
Slug

Cool deal, didnt sound like a jazz to me, must have a pre amp on it to boost his treble real hard.

I think they had a P-J pickup configuration and they may
have been active. I'm not sure.

Fender Jazz Specials...

Fender canned the line so the Fender Custom Shop builds them now.

I believe Duff was the bassist for the whole run (I don't consider Gn'Rs current line-up to be Gn'R) untill 1997

Duff said so himself in a magazine article (BP I think) that he hates active Pups.... said he tried 'em one time, the battery was dead, so he went back to passive for good.

He favored the chorus effect as well.
