Hey everyone, I was watching american idol last night and heard the bass player from the band. Who is he? and what kind of gear does he use I thought his tone was amazing.

Ricky Minor. I've seen him playing a number of different basses. The one clear shot of him last night looked like he was playing a Tobias neck-thru 5-string.

Ricky Minor is also the music director for the show. His playing never fails to bring a smile to my face. He is an amazingly versitile player - a true pro.

That's Ricky Minor and on the show he mainly flips between his Smith and Sadowsky basses. There is another TB thread on American Idol going on that you may want to check out. A lot of talk about his gear and on if he plays too busy on not.

Anyone know how he got the gig? What's he done to get this plum? Amazing he gets any face time at all, given how protective Seacrest is. Actually jumped on stage on one number, if memory serves.

He's the Music Director for a lot of award shows and some name artists. So he's paid his dues.
