I cant find a bass player because I suck, and I'm retarded. No one wants to be in my band. No self respecting groupie ( or one without self respect) wants to F*** me!

I guess that means that all the friends that I've made through music, the girlfriends that I've gotten because of shows and the awesome people that I've met at gigs were/are all fake!
What ever will I do?

Here's the post he's responding to: Quote:
[To Those Who Seek A Bassist] ...and wonder where we are hiding, it's really simple.
Real bassists are not guitarists doubling/slumming/multi-tasking the vast majority of the time. Real bassists view the bottom end as their home, and approach their instrument like a craft. Having the ability to truly groove and bridge rhythm and melodic/harmonic elements is a gift that only the better bass-players have. It's what makes us truly bassists, as opposed to bass-players.
Bass-players do exactly that; they play bass, but not to the fullest potential, and usually play for free. Bassists, on the other hand, know their craft, serve the material, and make any band sound better. You'll find a bass-player here and there, but you'll have a hard time finding a bassist, because most of us are already working; being paid for our knowledge and skill; making the better bands out there live up to their description. Some bassists are so dedicated that they also play the upright, or double on keyboard bass synth, or play multiple bass instruments with different numbers of strings.
Bass-players might be a more subservient personality type; 1-4-5, eighth notes on the root, etc. If that's what your music needs, then there's gonna be a bass-player out there for you. Bassists, on the other hand, can go well beyond the aforementioned, and will show-up a lesser guitar-player. They will compliment a good guitarist, however, since, by implication, a guitarist is one who can make his instrument serve the song, and is not all about hogging the spotlight all of the time, unless a killer solo is called for. A good guitartist will appreciate a good bassist, because the interplay between them gets that much more interesting, both for themselves, and their audience. It's almost equally hard to find a good guitarist in this town for the same reason that it is hard to find a good bassist; we're already working, very often in 2 or 3 different projects, and an open date is not an excuse to look for more, but a welcomed day off. Of course, there's more good guitarists out there as a matter of math (guitars outsell bass guitars 7-1, therefore there are more guitar-playing people), but take away the "me first" guys, and you're left with an elite few.
Regardless of one's instrument, the late, great Jaco Pastorius said it best: "It ain't braggin' if you can back it up." Of course, Jaco creatively overplayed just about everything, and was not known for his vocal ability. Most bands want a little less chops, and a more complete package in a bass-player. A bassist who sings, and has skills on other instruments is therefore one to keep track of, for other musicians, and a coveted commodity for bands that want one, so put your best foot forward, and play it on the one.
Respect the F clef, and support your local bassist...if you can find him when he's not busy.
| ... and here's the first response: Quote:
WOW. So those of us who don't have a stick up our *** will just keep looking for a good bass player. Meanwhile you can stay at home and "hone."
"Bassist" INDEED.
| Ah, Craigslist.
Well I'd better sign off so I can go contemplate whether I'm a Bass Player or a Bassist.

BTW spaz21387, What's wrong with finding band members on Craigslist. I found my bandmates in one of the groups I'm in on Craigslist and we've been together for 3 years. And I've only been jumped, had my gear stolen, and or raped twice.

That was her thing. Sadly, I was dating her roommate, but I saw her score some major label bass players. I asked her if she had a thing for bass players but she never would answer.
