Does anyone know what gear he used in the studio? I absolutely love the tones he gets on this album.

I don't know, but I LOVE that album. Completely mood altering. Beautiful.

He uses Ashdown heads with WEM cabs. He plays a Fender Jazz, but I think on the album he mainly played his EUB, and his pair of Status 4 and 5-strings (fretless and fretted). That's what I saw on the AOL Sessions where they played a couple of songs from the album.

Here's the wikipedia quote: 'During David Gilmour's On An Island tour he is usually seen sporting a 3-tone sunburst 1961 Fender Precision, a vintage Fender Jazz, a Status Vintage GP, and an EUB (Electric Upright Bass)'

'Amp wise, nowadays he is mostly seen with Ashdown ABM heads and WEM cabs (equipped with Blue-cone Ashdown speakers, as Watkins Electric Music cabs are no longer being made).'

Couldn't tell you off the top of my head, but at my other place I've got the Gilmour Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD which has some stuff about the recording of On An Island on it. I'll check it out when I get back tomorrow. IIRC Gilmour liked him using Precisions a lot (which Pratt actually hates). Pratt also has a 64 (I think) Jazz with EMGs named Betsy which he uses quite a lot, but I couldn't tell you if he used it for On An Island.

EDIT: Beaten

He's been using a Lakland jazz style fretless for the past few years.
