Happy Birthday Jaco

Sign in to disble this ad
Dec 1st, 1951 Jaco was born. Just thought it would be nice for a thread dedicated to the birth of an innovator.

Wanted to state some of the things that some of todays great players say about Jaco.

"Jaco may have been the last Jazz Musician in the 20th century to have made a major impact on the musical world at large. Everywhere you go sometimes it seems like a dozen times a day, in the most unlikely places you hear jaco's sound; from the latest tv commercial to bass players from all stripes copying his licks on records of all styles, from news broadcast to famous rock and roll bands, from hip hop samples, to personal tribute records, you hear echos of the unmistakable sound everywhere".
Pat Methney

If you want to turn a young person on to jaco, I think you have to do it like he did it to me. Play it for them when they are young, then keep playing it to them as they get older. Everytime they hear it they'll appreciate it more on a deeper level, until one day, they won't be able to live without it."

Happy Birthday we miss you dearly, but you're in a better place now.

Coincidence that made me shiver...I was cleaning the kitchen and put his debut solo album on the record player. Taking a break, I log on to TalkBass and see this thread smack in the middle of Portrait of Tracy.

Very moving few moments as the last few bars played out...now time to flip the record. Happy birthday, Jaco. Thank you for what you left us.
