Happy Birthday Robert Trujillo, If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have probably ever picked up a bass, I would be a guitard. You and Metallica rule, keep up the great work! |

Anybody else think his best work was with Infectious Grooves?
Happy Birthday Rob. |

he definitely had the most technical ability out of the applicant's from what they showed in the some kind of monster footage but I would have liked to have seen some more footage of scott reeder from kyuss and pepper keenan from COC and down (even though pepper is a guitar play really) playing with them. reeder did a pretty amazing job with kyuss and pepper is a pretty amazing riff writer and songwriter.
i just hope metallica forgets that they wrote anything past and justice for all for the next album > but that probably wont happen |

The slap work on "The Plague that Makes Your Booty Move" influenced me more than any other bassist of that time except for Trevor Dunn of Mr. Bungle. I just hope this gig doesn't suppress him too much. Metallica's really slowed and sloppied down on late albums. Maybe he's what they need to turn them around, I just hope James Hetfield will listen to him, otherwise it might be another Newstead situation in the end.

May I please contribute +1000 of my own to your post.
BTW: I'm not what you would call a Metallica "Fan" - I certainly respect their playing. I got into Trujillo's playing purely thru Infectious Grooves...

There were very few of the applying bassists who really rocked (Robert was one of them, though). You'd think one of the biggest rock bands in the world would have some insane bassists knocking at their door. |

A band like Metallica isn't gonna be putting a "Bass-player Wanted" ad in the paper (imagine the response if they did!), and Q-Prime aren't going to sacrifice the percentage points on one member being represented by another agency.
Either that, or all the other applicants were represented by other agencies and Trujillo was given the gig purely for his connection with QP?
Forgive my cynicism, but this is the music business, after all

you know i never thought about the management company being a factor in their choices for picking a bass player if it was that would be rather corporate of them of course when you consider their last couple of records that rather suits them |

Think of all the natural metal orchestrations they've been suppressing all these years (90's-now), it could make for an amazing comeback if it's real.

Happy Birthday Rob. | Oh yeh! He's a monster player and a fine example of good attitude. Totally respect him.
Infectious Grooves, very cool! Have all albums and over here they ain't that easy to get.
Metallica made a very smart move getting him on board. I think he will make them better and I think they know that very well.
And the old bugger is what? About 42?
Very inspiring bassist, always love his playing.
HBD Rob.
