I just heard this guy for the first time on Youtube on Miles Davis Live in Paris. I love this guys playing...funky, soulful, melodic, aggresive...awesome. Anybody know of any other recordings he is on? I'd love to get some more on this guy. Thanks |

Thanks | Its kind of hard for me to tell who is playing what as there are two bassists in those Live concerts in the 80's as he had a lead bassist and a bassist....Im guessing Benjamin was holding the groove. I really cant stand alot of what Miles did in the 80's ....I really cant stand those cheesy sounding synths or some of the tones the musicians used. Guess its just the time period for me.

The Glamorous Life tour through Romance 1600 LP and tour. Not sure after that. Very underrated bassist!
Yeah he was in Krush Groove as Shelia's bassist and even had one line while playing a keyboard!

Benny did a jazz album called the Outtakes that you might find in a used CD shop if you don't dig Santana. His solos have always been smokin' in the live shows I've seen him with Carlos. One thing for sure, Carlos always had great taste in bassist!

He lays real low on that gig but the boy can smoke with the best of them! He was an Ibanez BTB endorser for a minute but I believe he's moved on to another brand. |

I have been listening to Benny Rietvald since 1988 when I saw him with Miles Davis. He replaced Darryl Jones. He played with Miles from 1988 to about 1990. I have numerous "live" conert tapes with him on bass, and 2 "live" videos that are off the board bootleg. He is on Miles Davis in Munich DVD and MIles Davis in Paris DVD in which you can buy anywhere. But the vast majority of his work from 88 to present is with Santana and Miles Davis. He and Dennis Chambers destroy when they are on tour, I would see Santana just for Chambers and Rietvald. I e-mail Benny quite a bit and talk to him, he is very cool and helpful. Go to his website. |

| | | | I have to stress that Benny is a very good musician, but he is a Great guy. I work in NYC and installed a telephone line for him. We got to talking and he couldn't have been nicer. He even insisted on buying me a cup of coffee at this great cafe next door to him. When I saw him a year later, he made it a point to say hello, and remembered exactly who I was. It doesn't seem like a big deal, but I've met plenty of guys I look up to that turned out to be jerks. He gigs alot at a venue called The Living Room in NYC. Check him out if you can. |

It's so disheartening when you hear stories of different musicians who figuratively give fans and others the "bird" as if they were nobodies. I'm checking out Bennies site.
