Help identifying Bowies bass player

Sign in to disble this ad
I was watching an old Dvid Bowie concert I found on the end of an old VHS, he has an absolutely gorgeous black lady playing bass. She had a shaven head and surely could play! Any idea who she may be? The concert was probably at least 10 years old and the audience was tiny - probably 300 people

Cheers

sounds like the Bowie at the Beeb show from awhile back....they issued 2 cd's of old stuff, along with a cd of the contemporary concert, a vid was briefly available, but tough to find here in amurica...

Does she play bass on Bowie's Let's Dance album? China Girl has one of the best sounding bass tone I have ever heard. SRV's playing on that album doesn't suck either.

I don't think that's her, but I could be wrong. I know that Nile Rogers produced that one.

Just looked it up. It's Carmine Rojas.

here's a link with a few of the bowie bands... i don't agree with all of the reviews, bt the band list is alright.
http://www.warr.org/bowie.html
trevor bolder (spiders bassist), tony visconti, herbie flowers (always tasty), george murray, carmine rohas, tony sales.
i don't think that this is everyone, but i threw it up all the same.

her playing and singing "under pressure" is a real feat- tricky contrary rhythms.

also Yossi Fine plays on the Outside album (Erdal Kizilcay's only on "strangers when we meet" which was carried over from the Buddha of suburbia album)- nice fretless on "the hotel".

I'd like to know who played bass on the studio version of Bowie's "Let Me Sleep Beside You."

+1, Gail Ann Dorsey is a monster talent both playing and singing. There is a clip of her on Youtube singing with Gwen Stefani that really shows how unfair entertainment can be when it comes to rewarding people according to actual talent.
