help -- for the life of me I can't remember who this is

Bass player that came up in the 80's hair metal days, played a fretless (I don't know if he played fretless exclusively but I know that he did play it a lot) and played a bass that had some odd number of extra frets..... like way down the into the body.

Thats about all that I can remember. He released some kinda album later on that had the word "Funk" in the title and I don't remember him being associate with one particular band. I am thinking that he was similar to Rudy Sarzo in that he was with some medium to heavy hitters (in Rudy's case, Quiet Riot & Ozzy) but this is all just little bits and pieces that I am putting together as I try to remember who this guy is. I want to get that album but I have to remember his name first!

Randy Coven? "Funk me tender"? Don't know if he played fretless, though.
