Help me with my new collection.

So a little background on me. I've toyed around with bass for about 2 years now. I didn't take it very seriously until about 5 or 6 months ago. I've started taking lessons, setting goals in my playing, and this has made me rediscover a love for music that I had forgotten.

So... two days ago, while cleaning out a storage space, I found an old cd tower filled with just random albums I had aquired through highschool. Looking at it, I realized how little the music in it appealled to me. Then it hit me... I grabbed the tower and emptied it, and am now going to fill it with a collection of music by great bassists.

So here is where you come in... I have 6 slots for double albums and would love some suggestions on filling them. What double albums should I absolutely not be without in your opinions? I have one spot taken by "Punk Jazz: the Jaco Pastorius Anthology". Got 5 spaces left. I am open as far as genre goes and would love to hear ideas on single albums that fit the theme as well.

Thanks.

I can't really recomend any double albums off the top of my head but that Jaco anthology is a great starting point. I picked it up about a year ago and i love it.

I would add the two Beatles anthologies, a Motown best-of, and Donny Hathaway Live.

Any Stax compilation. Donald "DucK" Dunn is awesome as well as prolific. He was the house bassist for Stax and with Booker T and the MGs (the rest of Stax house band). It's mind boggling how many of hits out of Memphis Duck played on. A great bassist, not just a side actor in the Blues Brothers movies.

Hmmm, you're looking for 2-cd sets with a double-sized jewel box, then? That is an old skool tower 'cause a lot of double-cds now come in a single-sized case.

Anyway, maybe-
The Allman Brothers Band- Live At The Fillmore East (full concert, not the edited single disc edition).

Steely Dan- Showbiz Kids...I don't have this only because I have everything else by them (including the Citizen Dan box). Showbiz Kids is a 2-cd set...not sure about the size of the jewel case, though.

The Beatles Anthologies...there are 3 of them (mine are in the jumbo-sized case). If you go this route, you may want to pick one based on your favourite Beatles' period. The Beatles Live At The BBC is also entertaining.

Other double-sized jewel cases in my old skool tower include-
Santana- Lotus
Prince- Sign O' The Times
The Doors- In Concert (Absolutely Live)
Led Zep- Physical Graffiti

Not sure if Chicago's Live at Carnegie Hall is what you're looking for.

Off the top of my head, I can't really think of any Jazz-style stuff (except the Jaco thing you mentioned. Even Joni MItchell's Shadows & Light 2-cd set is in a single case).

Wow. The Beatles Anthology... The bottom 3 slots are begging for it now. I think If I do some digging I might find I still have the first one, somewhere.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the input and any more anyone has. Maybe I'll Keep a listing on here as it grows as part of my project.

...and yeah, the case is certainly old for a piece of cheap plastic. Think I've had it near 15 years and it's been sitting in the barn for a good part of that. Little bit of old to fill with the new. I'm a sucker like that for symbolism.
