He gave Mitch Mitchell a little freedom, but he told Noel exactly what to play - every time
I can Imagine that Jimi could play Noels bass lines, but Noel was known for being very reliable and able to suck it up when it came to Bass Freedom
Can't imagine Jimi had to lay down Noels tracks too often, if at all... |

I read on Eddie Kramer's site, he went in and recorded the tune (and bass line) very late at night after hearing a guy playing the song on acoustic at a party...took the acoustic guy in there with him too.
Eddie's story also said Jimi would bring a party crowd back to the studio, and Noel would get really irritated and just leave, so Jimi did have to cover bass sometimes.
You gotta remember, in that era especially, nobody cared who did it, as long as it just got done.

Also, Jimi bringing people back to the studio and pissing Redding off is how Jack Casady came to play bass on the recording of "Voodoo Chile Slight Return"....back to OP, I think the bass versions are cool if well done! The Little Wing clip is great.
