That was great. Thanks for sharing.

Alain Caron plays with such low action and light touch that his technique almost seems like a variant of slap to me, rather than the original animal. Of all the big slap players, he does the best job IMO of making the high notes an equal part of the bassline rather than percussive ornamentation. And obviously he does in fact play melodies up there on his own tunes. He's a really great player with a definitive style.

Absolutely love Alain Caron! Here is another great example of his most inspiring playing:

Nice little video- I assume they're playing in the plexiglass room to limit the loudness. Or because they are secretly in the Popemobile!

Also...man, the guitar player's tone sounds like butt. It's so fizzy.

As much as I admire Alain's technique and musicality, what Tom Jenkinson is achieving with the thumb/finger coordination is my 'cup o' tea.

This from 4.46, far from easy, very much his own style imo.

Awesome! I love Squarepusher too. I really dig how much his playing has improved. Now just add more of that bass playing to the electronica deal and it'll be killer! How 'bout getting the two of them together with....... let's say.......... L. Shankar on violin, Ronald Shannon Jackson on drums and Steve Vai on guitar. Now there's a group.
What if the evening's performance were especially composed by Arvo Part?
I might pee a little bit....

It would be interesting, he does tend to like to work alone though. There are quite a few great bass tracks in amongst the electronica in Tom's catalogue, it's a matter of sifting through really, I've got a few favourites. As a musician I consider he rules his own realm in his own way, I think he's way ahead.
