Sounds like what I get when I combine the synth wah and fuzz patches of my Zoom B21.u, I really wouldn't play entire songs with this type of tone because it tends to get lost underneath heavy guitars (or at least in my band it does) but whatever floats his boat.

I think his tone needs some edge, just my personal preference.

Really not diggin his tone. It wouldn't be so bad if it had a bit of bite or grit to it.

it's not meant to sound good out of the context of the album. imo, Troy it fits in the full song mixes really well both live and in the studio.

A very Burton-esque tone.

Troy Sanders is one of my favorit bassplayers and i freakin' love Mastodon, one of the best bands!

But I do think sometimes he uses to much fuzz, sounds a little bit too dirty.

Wow I wasn't expecting that, didn't realise he played so slowly with so many slides and stuff. Not too familiar with Mastodon so I dunno if he's playing basslines or following the guitar but it's a pretty cool style either way.

The tone sounds very fuzzy and distorted by itself. But in the mix it sounds pretty good. And that's what it's all about.

Funny thing is, I was having some trouble picking out some of his basslines beforehand. Now that I know what I'm looking for, I can hear it a lot better. Headphones help too.

Yeah I couldn't make anything out at all before, but hearing the guitars soloed he adds pretty much all the low end to the guitar sound overall between the 3 of them, the guitars sound a hell of alot more crunchy then I thought they'd be so it's a really cool mix they've got.

He really fits in the back of the songs, not always noticable in the mix (keeping an ear out for thick fuzz is not that easy!). I would prefer it if he had a more classic tone such as Geezer Butler or something. I presume he's happy with it though!

I'm surprised that with such a fuzzy tone he doesn't run a clean channel.
