No, we do not.

Very occasionally I will break my rule and do a simple groove for him while he figures something out.
Seems harsh, huh?
I want HIM to develop bass parts to gain a broader sense within himself of instrumentalities and to exercise creativity in all the voicings he makes for his material.
I also do not want to "lead" him in a direction of a song he wants to make by the thrust of my bass playing. I think he actually agrees with my philosophy, but I admit it can also be partly because our styles are so different.
If I help him at all it is in some mixing,a bit of arranging and various critiques to include telling him if something sucks (and offer a couple of alternatives)---that's called "guidance" (

). And we discuss music/theory exhaustively.
I think it works as he has made great strides in the short period of time he has been playing.
