Not sure if anyone else was aware of this, I know I wasn't till 2 nights ago. But I stumbled upon www.RyanMartinie.com , Where Ryan is offering a 1 hour 1-on-1 bass lesson, for 1 lucky person on each date of their current tour.
I got selected for today!!!! This will be one of the best day of my life. Ryan is my bass idol and has made me strive to be a better bassist and performer. And today I get to meet him and teach me his ways (oohhh yes daniel-son) hahaha.
Thought I'd share and give anyone else the heads up on this for the other shows. |

Death Blooms, Dig, Nothing To Gein, Severed, Silenced, Not Falling, -1, Happy?......and even still, I'm sure if I ask (which I will) about some other LD50 songs, he'll show me. |

I've done a hell of alot of dumber things with way more than this. This will be an experience, something I will remember forever. |

| | | | you misunderstood me. Its sweet for you, its kind of dick for him to charge you that. 50 is for charity, fine, but the other 200 is in his pocket.
hes really hurting for money so bad that he needs to charge fans for lessons?

I know alot of people will think it's dumb. I would think it was dumb if someone was paying $250 for an hour lesson from Fieldy, but to each their own. And being a huge fan of his since the first record, there's still quite a bit of things I don't know how to play or haven't figure out....so to me, it's completely worth it. |

I just got the email that I'll be getting the bass lesson from him when he comes through New Orleans next month. I completely get where you're coming from. I'm a big fan of his playing style, and I've already met him once after a concert, etc. To have one of my bass idols teaching me anything, even if I already know the freakin bass lines, is awesome. Look I have idols that are more skilled than Ryan Martinie but I really love the flavor that he brought to his style of music (my preferred style to listen to).
I'm all about experiences and not the cost of them. I shelled out thousands in the past few years flying around the country on trips, etc.... $250 for an experience that I'll remember forever = priceless.
I really see where you're coming from but, I don't think that pocketing $200 for an hour bass line is completely dick of him... I mean it is his time and he wouldn't be pocketing anything if people weren't dishing out for it. Sides, I don't know anything off of the new cd and there are a few spots on it that I'm curious as to how he plays it.
BTW Shawn, I'm pm'ing you bout something OH, and what of the new cd is on the set list? As well as other tunes, I'm curious to have him show me the intro to Fish Out of Water. I think he's just playing chords while pedaling his Low B string (tuned G still I"d think) with is thumb, but I dunno.

Anyways, the meet/lesson was amazing. He is a very intelligent man. Very well spoken and a great instuctor. Since I was a huge fan and knew alot of his material, I would play something of his and he would comment on my form and technique and whatnot. He gave me a few practice routines to try out, trying to work my ring finger into my playing more, and using my thumb like a finger to do some rolling lines up and down the strings. I can't even tell you half of what all we talked about without writing a novel, but it was great for me. Hearing from my idol that I am "well on my way" and that my form and techniques were very good was huge for me. All in all, I'm very glad I did it and I'm going to take his advice and try out some of his practice things and hopefully become a better and more well rounded player. |

On a slight tangent I wanted to point out that Karl Sanders (the guitar player/songwriter from Nile) did the same thing last year for a little cheaper (150 I think) and people gave him a tremendous amount of **** about it. Don't really see screams of outrage but this is a civil forum. |

I've payed somewhat big dollars for lessons from "in demand" people, and I think that this is simply an extension of that idea. A band like Mudvayne has very little free time on the road, and **** loads of bass playing fans (including many would not take the lesson time "seriously"). I think it's a good idea.

We traded Warwicks for the night and he took mine on stage with him for the night. I ended up getting a backstage pass to go get my bass after the show and got invited to the afterparty by Nonpoint! It was a hella good time. I would do it again today! And the money.......50 goes to charity 100 goes to taxes and b.s. so he only gets 100 bucks. I saw the paperwork on it, its no joke. He showed me because i was messing with him about Warwick having a 40% price increase so he needed the extra cash |
