Can anyone tell me why Hoppus is so widely disliked? I have seen many many people rip him for his 'basic' or 'rubbish' bass lines. I was wondering why so many people dislike him so?
IMO, he did what was necessary for the music he played - simple, driving, and serving the song. I mean if he wrote a hyperactive, all over the place Geddy-style line, he would completely ruin and defat the purpose of the songs, would he not?
Opinions? |

I'm still not a Blink182 fan, but I dig his signature axe a lot! The guy gets paid to play bass in front of thousands of people. He's livin the dream, gotta give him his props.

| | | He's a pretty basic player, I don't take too much issue with him because he spends a fair amount of time singing too. But you can be more complex than he is in the pop-punk genre; just listen to some Mike Dirnt lines. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tilaA8MbtEA
Naturally, not the best quality, but he's got some interesting stuff going on. |

Then another gets ripped for doing the same and he is tagged as a bass player that plays lines that are too simple. I don't get it either... |

There's nothing quite like bashing someone for every aspect of their succesful life to feel good about yourself, especialy when your in the basement of your parents with no life or friends.

Guess he's got to get added to the list again.

Just because you could perform a complicated bass line doesn't mean you should. |

| Oh, there is. The less notes you play the more money one makes. Virtuosity can be a handicap to career $$$$$ as a bassist. 99% of commercial money making songs call for sticking to the grove, minimal bass playing or creating a good groove, not soloing or two handed tapping skills. Simple 4/4 bass.

I figure I should be gagillionaire by next year! Ya know, now that I think about it, the bassist for The Presidents of the United States of America only had two strings on his bass. |

He's a bass player who also sings.
If you like Blink 182. great.
He makes tons of money. ( I wish it where me)
I don't think his bass line are that hard, or complex.
But I do dig his sig, bass. |
