I was on the phone with Verizon today. When they put me on hold I heard this wonderful song on hold with an absolutely work of art bassline!!!

While on hold, I ran to my computer and searched the song title. WOW!!! That is bass Heaven to me

Never noticed the bassline before. Great groove, Thanks for pointing it out.

Wow! Sweet find!
Whenever I'm on hold with Verizon, it's always massively garbled classical music. Not that I have a problem with classical (I rather enjoy it from time to time) but not when it's garbled beyond all recognition.

Didn't notice the bass line? I'm guessing you're new here aren't you? JK

Yeah, nice P Bass tone and Robert Palmer doesn't mind him playing above the 5th fret either. IMO, that bass line makes the song.

I know I've seen the bass player before, but I'm drawing a blank as to where. Anybody know who that is?

Very solid and tasty playing though my favorite parts of the song are the keyboard doing steel drums and then later doing a trumpet solo. Only in the 80's.

Is it Jimmy Williams? Pretty sure Bob Babbitt did the recording.

Funny- the YouTube of the Palmer version is a total lip-sync. It's the track from 'Double Fun,' note for note.

That song was written by a great bassplayer and one of my early heroes, Andy Fraser from Free!

4-5 days, huh? Have you visited the classifieds yet? I'd steer clear if you're married because G.A.S. can be a home wrecker, and you WILL have a case of G.A.S. if you hang around these boards. Plus, you get to hear little gems like the one posted in the OP. Welcome aboard.

That's the typical MO of rock on TV since time immemorial. Ed Sullivan, SNL and some others excepted. The Palmer clip was probably from some Euro program ("Top Pop?" Never heard of it.) "American Bandstand" was always lip-synched.

A few days back, someone posted a clip of the Raspberries performing(?) the great "Go All the Way" on the Mike Douglas Show. Eric Carmen's lead vox was live, the rest taped.
