how do be a session player?

Hey hey,
I am currently at VCU in Richmond studying bass. I ahve a project in music industry class, a how to for getting started as a session player for studio and live work. Anyone have some advice? An session cats willing to give an interview?

Find a time machine.
Go back to 1970.
And become a session player.

Seriously, It's much harder now to get into sessions.
It's a small club.
And there some great players
But go for it.
