Talking How does one become a creator of bass guitars?

So I'm really interested in professionally making bass guitars, how would I learn how to do this, who would I talk to, and what courses would I take in school?

I think LADO has a school for this in Quebec/Ontario I forget exactly. Or you could try and meet some luthiers and try to apprentice with them. Or just design and build, read books and talk to craftsmen, develep your own thing by trial and error.

One of the hardest things it seems is to get your name out and create a following.

But I don't have the closest thing to a clue as to how or where I should begin researching...

Start in the "Luthier's Corner" here on TB, it's a GREAT resource! The MIMF forums are great too. Do a search on MIMF and you'll get links. Take a wood shop class at your local college, it helps tons. Also, read everything you can get your hands on regarding luthierie.

The "Luthier's Corner" here on TB gave me the information I needed to put a 1/4" drop top on my bass. I haven't had much woodworking experience but I was able do do a good job thanks to this place.

Read Read Read.................then read some more!

hmmm...this thread may get moved out of the bassists forum so that it gets some views from the right crowd...

+1 on checking luthier's corner...not sure where you're posting from, but in morganton, georgia there is the curbow school of luthiery...check it out at curbow.com

There is always Warmoth in WA too. They are looking for finishers all the time. Start at the end and see if its even for you. The novelty may wear off fast.
