| | | This is just a hypothesis but in my opinion you would have to combine the talent of Jaco, Victor Wooten, Bill Dickens, Michael Manring, Stu Hamm, Stanley Clarke, and Juan Nelson and many many others to get just a tiny fraction of my skill. This is coming from someone who can play Classical Thump...with his toes, on 2 different basses, similtaniously. Plus I can play 8192nd notes at 10,000 bpm, with one finger.
BTW I use a 17 string bass |

I write like Robert DeLeo (Who sometimes sounds like he cant figure out what the guitarist is doing.) But I prefer comparing my ability to P-Nut. I think we're about on the same level.
You really can't compare yourself to a regular conversation topic on here without sounding conceited... unless you can.

there's no point in comparing myself to guys in bands, because what they play in the band probably has little bearing on what they can rip out in their spare time. if one was to judge my skill level by the lines i play in my band, i would immediately be deemed "crap on a stick", but then again a lot of guys don't understand the concept of taste or the need to simplify (i sing as well, and thus finger-frying passages go out the window in favour of keeping my voice in tune. sorta.). i like to leave a fair bit of space for my bandmates to stretch out and show what they can do (getting away from my rep as a "lead" bass player was always going to be difficult), so i guess i take the "Sting approach" towards my lines, although of course i don't possess Sting's understanding of music so naturally my lines suck next to his. bugger.
