Check out this cats "slap(?)" technique. When he slaps w/his fingers,is he really popping,or,is he slapping w/his fingers just by attacking the string pretty hard?I can't tell, can you??http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLyV5JLvxM0

I can't say. The video is reversed... :0)

Seriously, he slaps with 2 fingers and plucks with his thumb.

it seems you may not have noticed that his strings are upside down. making 'regular' slap technique irrelevant.

EDIT: oops, Barnaclebeau beat me to it.

His back pickup is a humbucker, that helps. Plus he's attacking the string like a piano hammer rather than plucking it. Bend the tips of your fingers and tap them into the strings.

That's the whole point of me asking about the video.I would say 99.999999% of us bass players would automatically,INSTANTLY,recognize that his bass isn't strung normally.THAT'S WHY I DIDN'T MENTION IT.

Nice try,yourself.

PEACE,STEVE

Hey Steve, how's your recovery going? Hope you are back to old self again.

I found when I stood on my head the video made more sense but at my age that hurt like hell so I just turned the laptop upside down. Its not to bad if you can get past the guy hanging like a bat...

That's the same way Steve Chesney (ran the old Wal site) slaps. The first time I saw him play and sing Tommy the Cat in a club in Jacksonville on a six string fretless Wal it made my head hurt.

In a good way!

He puts his thumb on the top of the string, and pushes it out, very quickly, at a 90' angle
