IMO one of the greatest bass players. He just plays the perfect parts for the song. + I love his live tone. Anybody have live pics of Hub?

Amazing Bass/Drum interaction in the Roots, sound 132173490752x better than that drum machine **** I'm hearing on the radio in modern hip hop. Props to keeping it real: bass/drums/keys/mc/awesome

if you see them live they have kind of an intermission where he stays out and solos for like 4 minutes while the rest of the band goes backstage, very cool.

also, black thought is the best live emcee on the planet.

I've always been a big Hub fan. The only bass player I enjoyed watching take an extended solo more live was Danyel Morgan of Robert Randolph and the Family Band.

Hub definitely has some serious talent... always love how tight his groove is with the drummer, without choking the pocket. Very musical basslines!

definatley my favorite player, what an incredible sound/groove/sense of harmony.... i met him at a show in providence and he signed a poster for me as well as everyone else waiting, even though the staff was trying to kick us out asap (the club turned into a night club 30 mins after shows ended)... anyway he's a real great dude....cheers to this guy.. my favorite pic's gotta be this one of the whole group

Seems like a good player for sure. But I read an interview he did a few years ago, and he seemed a little conceited. All he did was talk about how no one else could play in the pocket like he could. I know he's educated (he studied classical upright bass at Carnegie Mellon University), but come on. He came off as a sort of Yngwie of the bass world.

What he does that's so special is not get in the mc's way...the music is allowed to breath and be carried by the drums/keys...the guitar and bass groove. I really liked the article a couple years ago in Bass Player...yeah, he's a little confident but he's been around long enough to have a tad of an arrogant side...he's been performing since he was 7.
