I watched some more of his bass solo clips on You Tube....totally not impressed.

I listened to two solo clips and they didn't wow me either. They were about 50% showmanship, but consider that he is upholding live music in an idiom that has only begun to feature it. Here is a clip that can let you hear the man himself:
