I've been watching the Bonnie Raitt special on Direct TV lately.
James "Hutch" Hutchinson is her bassist.
His tone is amazing on this show. I have been trying to figure out what basses he is using.
It looks to me that both basses (Jazz & P/J) he is using have a Modulus(?) graphite neck on them.
That white jazz is the ****. Just grunts and pops in all the right ways.
His rig looks like (2) SVT Pro IIs, and a Line 6 Bass Pro.
Anyway, if anyone knows what his basses are, that would be greatly appreciated. |

She is playing some killer tunes with an excellent band. Yeah, if you get to talk to him or can figure out for yourself what he is using, that would be great.
I know Line 6 is touting him as a user of their Variax 700 bass, but they don't look like Line 6 basses. |

the bass he said he used the most was a sunburst P bass made by Stars Guitars with a Modulus Graphite neck and EMG PJ's. |

I wonder if the jazz bass is from Stars Guitars as well. |

there's a couple of white graphite neck basses just visible in a pic. |

Seen special too.
Hutch is playing his two Modulus basses.
The white one has Jazz style pickups.
The sunburst is a PJ model.
Both have grapite necks. |

He just always sounded like he wasn't doing much, but he was playing the crap out of that bass. His playing was always right in the groove, but not the least but boring.
I agree that his tone is top notch. |

Hutch was amazing! Very solid... Still one of my favorites! I had no idea that he had been playing with her since '83.
He played that PJ with the Graphite neck, a Modulus 5'ver, Azola Baby bass and a fretless Washburn ABG.
John Broussard opened up for them... OMG, his voice has some power! |
