I can't really stand multiple bass players...

If this is in the wrong thread, please move it to the proper one.

I might be the only one here like this, but I just can't stand hearing multiple bass players play anything at the same time. I can sometime take two playing off of one another, but three or more on the stage at once and I just can't take it any more.

I'm not trying to say that anyone sucks or anything; I'm just trying to say that I don't like it. Anyone agree/disagree?

EDIT: In this topic, I'm only talking about electric and acoustic bass guitars and not double basses.

It's all in the arrangement. I love the sound of Lou Reed's Walk On The Wild Side (upright and electric basses).

I agree about it all being about the arrangement.

The Beatles - "Think for yourself"

One bass part is the normal "bottom end", the other is "fuzz bass". Fantastic arrangement. The fuzz bass is almost like a horn section. Tasty.

I recorded this with two bass tracks, an acoustic guitar, and a drum machine. One bass track is the bassline, the other a melody track. I dialed in two different tones to keep them separate and think they do a find job sitting in the mix together.

Maybe that is because most bass players only know how to fill one role.

See, something like this I can listen to for hours on end, but the moment a third bassist comes on stage, my ears start bleeding.

Something like this I can't take:

Several Beach Boys tunes have 2 basses, acoustic and electric, and some have 3, adding 6-string bass.

This thread reminds me of every year receiving the Bass Player mag with this year's Bass Day photos; a bunch of bassists on stage wanking; that has GOT to sound bad, and yet it's considered a very cool event.

Any band with more than one bass player should be consigned to the dustbin.

I was in a band with 5 bassists and a drummer once. Everyone played their part and did their piece, so it worked. Everyone just needs to understand where they sit in the greater scheme of things.

I think they work well, two drummers also.

Crim out!

What about a double trio? Guitar/drums/bass + guitar/drums/Warr touch guitar (played in bass/baritone range)?
