I just hate the fact he's so damn good!!!
For my master class, we have to transcribe a minimum 32 bar solo of a bassist we wish to be able to solo like one day.
Who did I pick? Tony Grey. Monster Groove, Great guy, Killer player, and Melodic as a horn.
So...I chose "Kung Fu World Champion" off of Hiromi's Record.
BUT DAMN!!! It's taken me 2 days and i'm 11 bars out of 50!!!
AND IT ONLY GETS HARDER!!!
Wild...
Thanks for the inspiration though, Tony! |

| | | Yeah, Tony's great! I love his playing, have you seen his solo on " If"?
I really like his use of delay too. He's such a creative Bassist! |

His tone is SOOO dry, ouch it hurts sometimes, I wish he'd play with less mids and a little more neck pickup a lot of the time.
Hiromi's records > all jazz fusion ever.

I think I would have picked a Hellborg solo if I were in your shoes, or a Stanley Clarke solo, because I find it quite easy to emulate Stanley for some reason! |

I've talked to him a bit over PM.
I wouldn't mind luring him in here.
That's why I put the (Not Really Though) in there!
I wouldn't mind picking his brain though. |

The band is definitely a...modern fusion jazz, kinda style.
His technique is so weird, but it works! he manages to play faster than I can and I do rest stroke.
None the less, he's my favourite player out there now, James. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
